Every week at Associated Storage a walk-thru gets done.
The walk-thru involves looking at every single unit we have, and making sure those units have a customer lock, a green lock, or that are over lock.
The customer lock is any type of lock that customers use to secure there unit, green locks are our company lock, and over lock units are units that have an additional lock, which is red, we over lock these customers because they have not paid, as described on their lease.
It involves looking close to catch those units that are empty, because of a customer moving out, and not notifying us, or units that need to be over locked and are not.
When doing the walk-thru other details are involved, for example; looking at any damages around the property, double locks on units, or even something not right on the premises.
Lots of detail is involved, and having the time to make sure that everything is proper in the premises is very essential.
Any of our associates can do the walk-thru!
When the walk-thru gets done, they are kept as reference. We look back at them to make sure everything gets done, and to make sure we are on top of things.
This helps us to make sure we are providing the best self storage experience to our customers.

Services Offered at Associated Storage
Associated Storage offers a wide variety of services to help make your self storage experience more convenient. At Associated Storage we offer U-Haul to help make you r move to our facility easier!
We also offer E-Waste Recycling so you can easily dispose of unwanted electronics in a safe and secure environment with GreenSpot. GreenSpot is a self storage e-waste company that is used industry wide.
At Associated Storage we also have partnered up with Planet Aid to help you be able to donate your unwanted clothing and shoes.
Our newest service is with a company called Pro-Shred. Pro-Shred makes getting rid of those documents that you would not want to throw in trash a lot less worry!
As you can read, self storage at Associated Storage is not just great self storage, but a one stop shop for some of the other needs that come up when you are moving!

Excellent Opportunity
After your customer has decided that they are going to rent with your facility, sitting down with them and going through the lease is an excellent opportunity to educate them and build that relationship. At Associated Storage our customers get to come in and sit down with our staff after the decision has been about which storage unit will fit their needs.
During the lease process, our staff goes over the rules and lease policy. The customer is encouraged to read the lease. Our staff does take the time to educate the customer on using their gate code, the rules at the facility as so much more. The most important part of this is that we are getting to know you, the customer. You as the customer are getting to know our staff and about utilizing self storage.
I enjoy hearing our customers talk about how they like our personalized service and how our staff calls them by name. I especially like hearing that our customers who have left, have returned because we took the opportunity to build that relationship and that the customer feels welcomed back.
Here at Associated Storage we look forward to helping you with all your questions about storage so you can make an educated choice, but more important we want to build that long lasting business relationship with each customer to insure their satisfaction in self storage. Happy renting!

Attention to detail
How do you stay on top of your game and maintain attention to detail? The last two years have been a learning curve for me. There are so many great things to learn about in self storage and sometimes those things come on the heals of mistakes and lack of attention to detail. Mistakes are not what we really want to happen, but they do and we must deal and learn from it. Every time a mistake is made it must be broken down and dissected, so we understand how to prevent it from happening again. We must as managers must keep training and retraining and never take the smallest details for granted. We should really be reviewing all customer files, especially new customer files as to avoid paper work mistakes. The lease process for us in Self Storage is one that requires an attention to detail as to avoid issues down the proverbial legal road. Sure, have two staff members audit the files, but ultimately what it comes down to as a manager and a leader, is that you must manage. New customer files and changes should always be reviewed by the manager to look for the smallest of mistakes. Our owners are counting on us to be attentive!

On Training for Great Customer Service
Being in customer service in the self storage industry or any industry for that matter, before a person is considered for a position, the questions that should be asked is "Can you be great at customer service even under the pressure of everyday life?" "Do you like people and is your main goal to help them acquire the service they are seeking?"
I have 22 years in customer service, it is my greatest pleasure to bring the service and a smile to our customers faces, that is what I think of everyday before I start work.
While we can not predict the human factors that enter into everyday life, we can always make a choice to be the best at what we choose to do and how we choose to do it.
Can I train or can anyone else in the customer service industry train a person to be great? I believe so and work hard at this very thing everyday, however greatness in our industry is in the heart and in the thought process and is a decided goal of each individual. We, as managers and industry leaders can provide the tools, we can provide the encouragement, but ultimately the goal is decided by each person. Great customer service is a personal choice made by those who choose to work in the industry.
